HDTV Information
What Is Hi-Def Television aka HDTV?
High definition/HDTV is the highest quality digital receiver. It receives and decodes all digital signals and produces a picture with at least 720p or 1080i active scanning lines of resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It decodes or passes on (to a stereo receiver) Dolby Digital audio.
Features like widescreen and progressive scan offer a far better viewing experience than analog/standard TV.
EDTV = enhanced definition and produces a picture of at least 480p active scanning lines (resolution) and decodes or passes on (to a stereo receiver) Dolby Digital sound. It does not specify an aspect ratio.
